Adult Health Care for Dogs & Cats

Adult dogs and cats rely on regular veterinary care to stay healthy, comfortable and active throughout their lives. From routine check-ups to managing common health concerns, our team is here to support your pet at every stage.

Annual Health Checks & Vaccinations

An annual health examination is one of the most important things you can do for your pet. During this visit, we perform a full nose-to-tail check to assess your pet’s overall health and detect any early signs of disease. It is also a great opportunity to bring up any questions you might have about their care.

Vaccinations do not stop after the puppy or kitten stage. Annual vaccinations help protect dogs and cats from highly contagious, serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. We tailor vaccination protocols to your pet’s lifestyle, age and risk factors, ensuring they receive the protection they need—no more, no less.

Common vaccines administered:

  • Adult Dogs - C5 vaccine (Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Bordetella)
  • Adult Cats – F3 vaccine (Panleukopenia, Feline Herpesvirus and Feline Calicivirus)

The clinic also stocks Leptospirosis/Coronavirus for dogs, FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) vaccines for cats, and Rabies vaccines for AQIS export services and bat post-exposure treatment.

Parasite Prevention

Parasites can affect your pet’s health all year round. Fleas, ticks, intestinal worms and heartworm can cause discomfort, illness and, in some cases, be life-threatening. Some parasites are also zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from pets to people, making effective parasite prevention and good hygiene essential for the whole family.

Due to Brisbane’s climate, we recommend year-round parasite protection for all pets. Our team can advise on the most suitable prevention for your dog or cat based on their lifestyle, environment and your preferences. Options range from monthly chews to convenient 12-month injections administered by our veterinary team. It is important to choose products that provide complete protection, as not all parasite preventatives offer the same coverage.

If your pet is showing signs of a parasite infection, a visit to our veterinary team can promptly diagnose the issue and provide effective treatment to get them back to feeling their best.

Behaviour & Anxiety

Behavioural concerns are common in adult pets and can develop or change over time. Anxiety, fear or unwanted behaviours can impact both your pet’s wellbeing and your relationship with them.

We regularly assist with issues such as:

  • Separation anxiety
  • Noise phobias (e.g. fireworks, storms)
  • Aggression or fear-based behaviours
  • Changes in behaviour linked to pain or illness

A thorough health check is often the first step, as medical conditions can contribute to behavioural changes. From there we can arrange a behaviour consultation with Dr Danielle to provide practical advice, behaviour modification strategies or further referrals where needed.

Common conditions to be aware of in your adult dog or cat:

Our clinic treats a variety of conditions in adult dogs and cats. Your pet may never develop these commonly seen issues, but knowing what to watch for can make all the difference.

Vomiting & Diarrhoea

Vomiting and diarrhoea are among the most common reasons adult dogs and cats are seen at the clinic. These signs can be caused by a wide range of issues, including dietary indiscretion, infections, parasites, food sensitivities, furballs or underlying illness. While mild cases may resolve quickly, ongoing or severe symptoms can lead to dehydration and indicate a more serious problem. Prompt veterinary assessment helps identify the cause and ensures your pet receives appropriate treatment and supportive care.

If your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal upset, bring a fresh stool sample to your appointment for testing.

Ear Infections

Ear infections can cause pain, head shaking, redness and discharge. Hot and humid weather along with pets frequently getting their ears wet and bring on concerns. Ear infections are often linked to allergies or underlying skin conditions and require proper diagnosis and treatment.

Skin Allergies

Itching, licking, hair loss and recurrent skin infections are common signs of allergies. While food allergies are known, our Brisbane weather and lifestyle means that contact and airborne allergies are far more commonly seen within the clinic. Our veterinarians will work with you to identify triggers and create a long-term management plan to keep your pet comfortable.

Lumps & Bumps

Lumps are common as pets age and can range from harmless fatty masses to more serious concerns. We recommend having any new or changing lumps checked by our veterinarians promptly. Early assessment allows us to determine whether monitoring, testing or surgical removal is needed.

Urinary issues

Urinary issues are common in adult dogs and cats and can range from mild to life-threatening if left untreated. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) can affect both dogs and cats, often causing increased urination, straining, discomfort or blood in the urine. Some dogs are also prone to developing bladder stones, which can irritate the urinary tract and interfere with normal urination. In cats, urinary blockages are a medical emergency, as they can prevent urination altogether and rapidly become life-threatening. Early detection and prompt veterinary care are essential, and our team is experienced in diagnosing, managing and treating urinary conditions to help keep your pet healthy and comfortable.

If your pet is suffering from a urinary complaint, bring a clean fresh urine sample to your appointment for testing.

Regular veterinary check-ups, preventive care, and ongoing guidance help support your dog or cat through their adult years and maintain long-term health. If you ever have concerns about your pet’s health or behaviour, our veterinarians are your most trusted source of advice.
