Health Checks

Regular health checks are an important part of keeping your pet happy and healthy. Whether you’ve noticed lumps, skin issues, changes in behaviour, or simply want reassurance that everything is normal, our veterinary team is here to help.

Dogs and cats age much faster than humans, meaning significant health changes can occur in a short time. We therefore recommend a minimum of 12-monthly health checks for adult pets and 6-monthly health checks for our senior pets (those 8 years and over). During the visit, our veterinarians will perform a full nose-to-tail check to assess your pet’s overall health. As pets get older, the risk of conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity increases. Routine health checks allow for early detection, timely treatment, and in many cases, prevention of serious illness.

Health check appointments are also a great opportunity to discuss nutrition, behaviour, parasite prevention and any other concerns you may have.

What’s to expect at your pet’s health check consult:

Adult dogs and cats (1–7 years)

  • Vaccination assessment
  • Parasite check
  • Heart and lung examination
  • Dental health check

Senior dogs (8+ years)

  • Osteoarthritis assessment
  • Chest imaging (as recommended)
  • Blood and urine testing

Senior cats (8+ years)

  • Osteoarthritis assessment
  • Kidney disease screening
  • Blood and urine testing
  • Blood pressure measurement

Vaccinations

Vaccination plays a vital role in protecting pets from serious and potentially life-threatening infectious diseases. These are often administered within your pet’s routine health check consultation after their physical examination is performed. While puppies and kittens receive an initial vaccination course, ongoing vaccinations are essential throughout adulthood to maintain immunity and protect the wider pet community.

Canine Vaccination Schedule

  • 6–8 weeks: C3 or C4 (completed prior to adoption)
  • 10–12 weeks: C5
  • 14–16 weeks: minimum C4
  • 12 monthly: Booster C5

The clinic also stocks Leptospirosis / Coronavirus and Rabies vaccines. Talk to our vets about these options if you are expecting to travel with your pet.

Feline Vaccination Schedule

  • 6–8 weeks: F3 (completed prior to adoption)
  • 10–12 weeks: F3
  • 14–16 weeks: F3
  • 12 monthly: Booster F3

If you expect your pet to be an outdoor, or indoor-outdoor cat in the future (even a slight chance of this), additional vaccines such as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) will be recommended by our veterinarians.

While we don’t expect any side effects from your pet’s vaccination, we recommend a relaxed day after your visit. Like in human vaccines, some pets may experience mild lethargy, or localised swelling in the 24–48 hours post administration. This usually resolves with rest, food and water. If you notice a more severe reaction, please contact the team for advice.
